INTELLIGENT MONITORING SYSTEM FOR PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE IN THE RAIL SECTOR

14/06/2017

The Motion Control and Industrial Applications (MCIA UPC) centre has contributed to the development of improvements in monitoring processes for the rail sector, to help to enhance safety efficiently. Technologies are being developed on the basis of acoustic emissions that can be used for the early detection, localization and evaluation of cracks in critical elements of the bogie, such as the axes and the train wheel, and an analysis of the evolution of the defect. In this way, a break in a component can be predicted once cracks have been detected and the load schedule is known.

The project obtained funding from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) through the Retos-Colaboración programme. Other project participants are the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), DRACO Systems, WorldSensing and Eurecat-CTM.
