Multimedia Applications Laboratory

The Multimedia Applications Laboratory (LAM) was founded
in 1987 with the aim of finding innovative applications
for information and communication technology in different
professional fields. The laboratory focuses on adapting emerging
technologies to environments with special characteristics,
and its research is aimed at designing technological solutions
for professional groups engaged in knowledge-intensive activities.

e-Therapy or e-Better

This activity encompasses research conducted over the last six years, initially on mental health therapies with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, that has given rise to a model for applying ICT to everything from primary care to specialised treatments. The most important line of action, dealing with dysphagia therapy, is being carried out in conjunction with Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona and consists of a prototype model for improving patients' quality of life.

Activity monitoring and evaluation systems

Adaptive solutions for the display and/or visualisation of data on the activity of a given group (integrated in the i-cell platform).

Adaptive hypermedia and web-based recommendation systems

Research and pilot projects related to adaptive systems. In the last five years, LAM has developed a reference system prototype based on information clusters for application and integration in CMS platforms for special groups, above all in the mental health sector. In a healthcare process, it must be possible to customise content and tasks for each agent involved.

For the integration of business functions in information-intensive activities.

e-learning

The i-cell platform is the result of the integration of the last six years of research by LAM in the field of e-learning. The platform includes R&D contributions developed with companies and institutions in the fields of processes, quality, collaborative work, training, etc. The platform has been successfully used in different educational projects and lifelong-learning and doctoral programmes in which LAM is involved.

Development of a next-generation content management system (CMS) that integrates workflows

Computer systems for document and data management. The models currently being studied cater to living labs and, therefore, aim to meet the needs of all agents involved in an innovation process.

Augmented reality

Bare-hand manipulation of digital objects in the field of view of a video camera. This cutting-edge solution in the field of experimental augmented reality systems was featured at the most important international conference in the sector (SIGGRAPH 2009).

  • Television 2.0

    2.0 system for providing testimonials, references and information in the sphere of governance and civic information. The system offers solutions for mobile devices and the Internet. Fundació Ciutat de Viladecans. i-cell Viladecans Master in Design, Business and Technology (CPD).

  • The Alliance 2006–2010 information system

    CMS information system incorporating workflows. The system, based on the COLS technology platform, makes it possible to manage an organisation's sensitive information with the guarantees offered by the security options, customisation and validation of the different documents published on its website.

  • e-Better: Application of ICT to the therapeutic process

    The e-Better project was launched in collaboration with Hospital de Sant Pau with a view to using ICT to model the composition and organisation of systems for treating chronic diseases. The project was awarded an Avanza Competitividad I+D+i 2011 research grant.

  • i-cell Platform for R&D and innovation management

    The i-cell platform is an experimental platform being developed according to the terms of the Open Source initiative and the SCORM standard in order to ensure maximum scalability and adaptation in R&D and innovation environments.
