Millorar la superviv\u00e8ncia dels pacients amb osteosarcoma \u00e9s un dels reptes en el m\u00f3n m\u00e8dic i cient\u00edfic, ja que la taxa de superviv\u00e8ncia \u00e9s del 30 % en pacients amb tumors metast\u00e0tics.\r<br>La ter\u00e0pia est\u00e0ndard per tractar l\\&#8217;osteosarcoma consisteix a extirpar el tumor amb marges negatius, la resecci\u00f3 d\\&#8217;\u00e0rees \u00f2ssies m\u00e9s grans que el mateix tumor, per assegurar que no resten c\u00e8l\u00b7lules canceroses a la vora del teixit eliminat.\u00a0\r<br>Investigadors del Laboratori Plasmas for BioMedical Applications (PlasmaMED Lab) del Departament de Ci\u00e8ncia i Enginyeria de Materials de la Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya &#8211; BarcelonaTech (UPC), treballen en el desenvolupament d\u2019una nova ter\u00e0pia per al c\u00e0ncer d\u2019ossos, que evita els efectes secundaris dels tractaments convencionals \u2013com, per exemple, la quimioter\u00e0pia\u2013 i permet la regeneraci\u00f3 \u00f2ssia quan hi ha hagut resecci\u00f3 quir\u00fargica del tumor. En concret, el nou tractament empra plasmes atmosf\u00e8rics freds per generar esp\u00e8cies reactives d\\&#8217;oxigen i nitrogen (RONS), capaces d\u2019induir la mort de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules malignes i de garantir l\u2019administraci\u00f3 del tractament amb RONS en la zona tumoral, sense efectes secundaris.\r<br>En el marc del projecte TRANSFORMER (pel seu nom en angl\u00e8s, Transforming bone cancer therapy with composite biomaterials encapsulating plasma-generated RONS), es desenvolupar\u00e0 un producte que uneix per primer cop biomaterials per a la regeneraci\u00f3 \u00f2ssia amb un tractament innovador basat en hidrogels tractats amb gas plasma.<br>Project Header<br>no-repeat;left top;;<br>auto<br>20px<br><br><br><h4>Pressupost i finan\u00e7ament\u00a0<\/h4>\r<br>TRANSFORMER est\u00e0 finan\u00e7at amb 150.000 euros, a trav\u00e9s dels ajuts Proof of Concept (PoC) de l\u2019European Research Council (ERC), dins del programa Horizon Europe 2021-2017.
