La seva estructura \u00e9s altament porosa i confereix als aerogels d\\&#8217;unes caracter\u00edstiques \u00faniques, com ara tenir una baixa densitat, una gran superf\u00edcie espec\u00edfica o una baixa conductivitat t\u00e8rmica, cosa que els fa especialment adequats per a molt diverses aplicacions, com l\u2019absorci\u00f3 de contaminants, l\u2019alliberament controlat de f\u00e0rmacs, bastides (scaffolds) per a aplicacions biom\u00e8diques, l\u2019a\u00efllament t\u00e8rmic i els supercondensadors.\r<br>En aquest context, el grup de recerca e-PLASCOM treballa en el desenvolupament d\u2019aerogels multifuncionals formats amb pol\u00edmers naturals o biodegradables, amb l\u2019objectiu que aquests esdevinguin alternatives ecol\u00f2giques que puguin arribar a substituir, almenys parcialment, els materials pl\u00e0stics d\\&#8217;origen no renovable emprats fins al moment.\u00a0\r<br>L\\&#8217;obtenci\u00f3 d\\&#8217;aerogels multifuncionals d\\&#8217;origen natural pot ser una via per crear estructures escumades sostenibles amb elevades prestacions mec\u00e0niques, una baixa conductivitat t\u00e8rmica i una alta resist\u00e8ncia t\u00e8rmica.
