Un dels principals reptes \u00e9s substituir les resines d\u2019origen f\u00f2ssil, \u00e0mpliament utilitzades, per alternatives renovables que mantinguin les prestacions t\u00e8cniques exigides pels processos d\u2019impressi\u00f3 per llum, com la fotopolimeritzaci\u00f3 r\u00e0pida amb una bona estabilitat mec\u00e0nica dels prototipus impresos.<br><br>Les resines polim\u00e8riques han estat un dels materials m\u00e9s utilitzats des dels inicis de la impressi\u00f3 3D, especialment en tecnologies que fan servir llum per solidificar-les, com es el cas de les t\u00e8cniques d\u2019impressi\u00f3 digital amb llum (DLP). Aquestes resines es formen a partir de compostos liquids, anomenats mon\u00f2mers i olig\u00f2mers, que es tornen s\u00f2lids quan es polimeritzen sota l\u2019acci\u00f3 de llum ultraviolada (UV) o llum visible (vis). Tot i que en altres tipus d\u2019impressi\u00f3 3D, com la Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), ja fan servir materials m\u00e9s sostenibles, com el PLA (fet a partir de mid\u00f3 de blat de moro), en el cas del material de partida per impressi\u00f3 DLP aix\u00f2 no \u00e9s tan f\u00e0cil. Fer resines amb components naturals \u00e9s complex perqu\u00e8 aquestes mat\u00e8ries primeres han de permetre reaccions de polimeritzaci\u00f3 (la reacci\u00f3 qu\u00edmica que les transforma en pl\u00e0stic) en estat l\u00edquid i lliure de dissolvents.\u00a0<br><br>En aquest context, s\u2019han desenvolupat noves resines polim\u00e8riques 3D a partir de mon\u00f2mers provinents de diverses fonts naturals, com \u00e9s l\u2019\u00e0cid succ\u00ednic, l\u2019\u00e0cid m\u00e0lic, i l\u2019\u00e0cid tart\u00e0ric, que es troben en aliments com el blat de moro, el br\u00f2coli, les pomes o el ra\u00efm. L\\&#8217;objectiu del projecte \u00e9s impulsar les tecnologies de fabricaci\u00f3 additiva a trav\u00e9s d\\&#8217;un proc\u00e9s de maduraci\u00f3 tecnol\u00f2gica i promoure\\&#8217;n la implantaci\u00f3 de la tecnologia en la ind\u00fastria catalana de fabricaci\u00f3 de prototips de pl\u00e0stic.<br><br>La recerca s\u2019ha desenvolupat en dues fases. En una primera, liderada per l\u2019IMEM-BRT, s\u2019ha preparat la resina polim\u00e8rica a partir de materials d\\&#8217;origen vegetals per ser impresa en 3D. Posteriorment, l\\&#8217;\u00e0rea de Coneixement i Transfer\u00e8ncia de Tecnologia de l\\&#8217;ICIQ i Projectes Industrials (ICIQ-KTT) ha impr\u00e8s la resina.<br><br>En la impressi\u00f3 3D amb llum es requereixen resines l\u00edquides, lliures de dissolvents i amb una bona cin\u00e8tica de polimeritzaci\u00f3 (\u00e9s a dir, com de r\u00e0pid es produeix la reacci\u00f3 de polimeritzaci\u00f3 i quins passos qu\u00edmics hi intervenen) per ser industrialment viable. Aquests mon\u00f2mers permeten obtenir, en una sola etapa de s\u00edntesi, resines funcionals que poden ser utilitzades en impressores tipus digital light processing (DLP) o d\\&#8217;estereolitografia (SLA).<br><br>Amb aquesta metodologia, els investigadors han aconseguit fabricar resines amb fins a un 50% de contingut d\u2019origen vegetal, i les peces impreses presenten bona estabilitat estructural i una alta taxa de biodegradaci\u00f3. Tanmateix, per garantir les propietats necess\u00e0ries de polimeritzaci\u00f3 i estabilitat mec\u00e0nica, va ser necessari combinar aquests components naturals amb co-mon\u00f2mers derivats del petroli. Algunes formulacions inicials van mostrar fragilitat t\u00e8rmica, especialment aquelles basades en els \u00e0cids m\u00e0lic i tart\u00e0ric. Per aix\u00f2, l\u2019equip va optar per centrar-se en combinacions m\u00e9s robustes, prioritzant l\u2019\u00fas d\u2019\u00e0cid succ\u00ednic.<br><br><h4>Impacte<\/h4><br><br>La iniciativa contribueix a la transici\u00f3 cap a una economia circular i baixa en carboni, reduint l\u2019\u00fas de recursos f\u00f2ssils i promovent l\u2019aprofitament de mat\u00e8ries primeres renovables en el sector de la fabricaci\u00f3 additiva. Les resines desenvolupades ofereixen una alternativa viable per a la producci\u00f3 de peces 3D amb propietats adequades per a aplicacions industrials, m\u00e8diques i educatives, afavorint la implantaci\u00f3 de solucions ecol\u00f2giques en entorns reals.\u00a0<br><br>\u00a0<br><br><h4>Socis i finan\u00e7ament<\/h4><br><br>Aquest \u00e9s el segon tipus de resines polim\u00e8riques que l\\&#8217;ICIQ i la UPC han desenvolupat dins del projecte Base3D, en l\\&#8217;agrupaci\u00f3 Light3D, liderada per LEITAT. La primera va ser un pol\u00edmer biodegradable que va permetre imprimir amb excel\u00b7lents propietats, amb impressores DLP.<br><br>El grup IMEM-BRT forma part del <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/multiscale.upc.edu\/en\" target=\"_blank\">Centre de Recerca en Ci\u00e8ncia i Enginyeria Multiescala (CCEM)<\/a> de la UPC, que t\u00e9 l\\&#8217;acreditaci\u00f3 d\\&#8217;Unitat d\\&#8217;Excel\u00b7l\u00e8ncia Mar\u00eda de Maeztu. Actualment compta amb un laboratori d\\&#8217;impressi\u00f3 3D equipat amb impressores per Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), per extrusi\u00f3 d\\&#8217;hidrogels i bio-tintes i per polimeritzaci\u00f3 de resines per curat amb llum UV regulable a 365 nm, 395 nm i 405 nm.<br><br>El projecte s\u2019ha emmarcat en el<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cimupc.org\/rdi\/projectes\/impressio-3d-hibrida\/#base3d\" target=\"_blank\"> Projecte Base-3D<\/a> (001-P-001646), liderat pel <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cimupc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">CIM UPC<\/a> i va estar cofinan\u00e7at pel Fons Europeu de Desenvolupament Regional (FEDER) en el marc del Programa Operatiu FEDER de Catalunya 2014-2020.
