Ser\u00e0 el telescopi terrestre \u00f2ptic i infraroig proper m\u00e9s gran del m\u00f3n i s\u2019est\u00e0 construint a m\u00e9s de 3.000 metres d\u2019al\u00e7ada, al cerro Armazones, al desert d\\&#8217;Atacama, a Xile.<\/h4><br>Project Header<br>no-repeat;left top;;<br>auto<br>20px<br><br><br><p><span>El <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cd6.upc.edu\/index.php?nc=1&amp;lang=cat\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Centre de Desenvolupament, Instrumentaci\u00f3 i Sensors (CD6)<\/span><\/a><span> de la Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya &#8211; BarcelonaTech (UPC) ha finalitzat la seva aportaci\u00f3 al projecte de construcci\u00f3 de l\u2019<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/elt.eso.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Extremely Large Telescope (ELT)<\/span><\/a><span>: el <\/span>disseny i la construcci\u00f3 del sistema \u00f2ptic que es far\u00e0 servir per calibrar el gran mirall principal del telescopi<span>.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Dels cinc miralls que contindr\u00e0 el telescopi, <\/span>el mirall principal, denominat M1, \u00e9s el m\u00e9s singular des del punt de vista tecnol\u00f2gic<span>. \u00c9s un mirall c\u00f2ncau de 39,3 metres de di\u00e0metre \u2014el m\u00e9s gran dels que existeixen actualment\u2014 i un radi de curvatura de 68,7 metres. En ser massa gran per estar fet d\u2019una sola pe\u00e7a de vidre, l\\&#8217;aparell es compon de segments hexagonals individuals, cadascun d\u2019uns cinc cent\u00edmetres de gruix, prop d\u20191,5 metres de di\u00e0metre i 250 kg de pes, separats entre si per una dist\u00e0ncia de 4 mm. En conjunt, l\u2019estructura est\u00e0 formada per sis sectors compostos per 133 segments de diferent forma i funcions. En total, s\u00f3n 798 segments hexagonals que actuaran com un \u00fanic mirall i tindran capacitat per recollir desenes de milions de vegades m\u00e9s llum que l\\&#8217;ull hum\u00e0.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Aquests segments hexagonals han d\u2019estar perfectament situats per reproduir la forma del mirall primari. La precisi\u00f3 en l\u2019alineament d\u2019aquests miralls al llarg de tota la superf\u00edcie \u00e9s de dos nan\u00f2metres (un gruix 10.000 vegades m\u00e9s prim que un cabell hum\u00e0) i l\u2019objectiu \u00e9s que aquests components treballin junts per formar un sistema d\u2019imatge perfecte. Cada dia, dos d\u2019aquests segments s\u2019extrauran per ser netejats i per renovar-ne el recobriment, amb l\u2019objectiu de garantir la m\u00e0xima efici\u00e8ncia del telescopi.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Per assegurar que els segments estiguin ubicats correctament, el telescopi compta amb gaireb\u00e9 2.500 actuadors que permeten posicionar cada segment individual amb precisi\u00f3 nanom\u00e8trica. La tasca d\u2019aquests actuadors \u00e9s supervisada per dos sistemes: un interfer\u00f2metre \u00f2ptic, anomenat <\/span><span>Local Coherencer<\/span><span>, i una xarxa d\u2019aproximadament 9.000 sensors instal\u00b7lats en els segments.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p>El disseny, la construcci\u00f3 i la validaci\u00f3 del Local Coherencer, un instrument cr\u00edtic per al correcte funcionament de l\u2019ELT, es va adjudicar a l\u2019empresa IDOM, que n\\&#8217;ha liderat el desenvolupament en col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 amb el CD6<span>. La soluci\u00f3 creada pel CD6 i IDOM, i aprovada per l\u2019<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/elt.eso.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>European Southern Observatory (ESO)<\/span><\/a><span>, es basa en un <\/span>concepte \u00f2ptic original, que \u00e9s una variant de l\u2019interfer\u00f2metre que el CD6 ja va crear per al Gran Telescopi de Can\u00e0ries<span>, ara fa 20 anys. Es tracta d\\&#8217;un sistema de metrologia sense contacte, una soluci\u00f3 lleugera, compacta i robusta, que permet mesurar simult\u00e0niament la difer\u00e8ncia de posici\u00f3 (pist\u00f3) entre un segment i els seus sis ve\u00efns. T\u00e9 una precisi\u00f3 inferior a 300 nan\u00f2metres dins d\u2019un rang de \u00b1250 micres, i funciona mentre est\u00e0 muntat en el manipulador de segments del telescopi. El sistema mesura no nom\u00e9s la difer\u00e8ncia d\u2019al\u00e7ada entre els dos segments, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 les inclinacions relatives entre ells, tot amb un sol instrument.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>L\u2019estructura del telescopi \u2014que el mant\u00e9 estable en totes les condicions, fins i tot amb vents forts i en cas de produir-se terratr\u00e8mols\u2014 est\u00e0 formada per una part horitzontal, o estructura azimut, la qual suporta el tub del telescopi. Tamb\u00e9 inclou una part vertical, o estructura d\\&#8217;altitud, de 50 metres d\u2019al\u00e7ada, que cont\u00e9 dues plataformes enormes les quals allotgen els cinc miralls i altres instruments cient\u00edfics. El mirall primari est\u00e0 recolzat a la part inferior d\\&#8217;aquesta estructura, i el mirall secundari penja molt per sobre de la part superior del tub del telescopi. Els altres tres miralls se situen a la torre central del tub del telescopi, de 10 metres, situada al centre de l\\&#8217;estructura de suport del mirall principal.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Amb diferents formes, mides i funcions, els cinc miralls del telescopi estan dissenyats per funcionar de forma coordinada, un disseny \u00f2ptic pioner que permetr\u00e0 revelar dades de l\\&#8217;Univers amb un detall sense precedents. El mirall principal M1 contindr\u00e0 milers de components altament sofisticats que permetran recollir la llum del cel nocturn i reflectir-la en el mirall secundari. El convex M2, el mirall secundari m\u00e9s gran que s\\&#8217;ha utilitzat mai en un telescopi, d\\&#8217;uns 4 metres de di\u00e0metre, penjar\u00e0 per sobre de l\u2019M1 i reflectir\u00e0 la llum cap a l\u2019M3, que al seu torn la transmetr\u00e0 a un mirall pla adaptatiu, l\u2019M4, situat a sobre. Aquest quart mirall modificar\u00e0 la forma de la seva superf\u00edcie mil vegades per segon per corregir les distorsions provocades per la turbul\u00e8ncia atmosf\u00e8rica, abans d\\&#8217;enviar la llum a l\u2019M5, un mirall pla inclinable que estabilitzar\u00e0 la imatge i l\\&#8217;enviar\u00e0 als instruments ELT.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>L\u2019innovador sistema, que va permetre guanyar juntament amb IDOM un proc\u00e9s de licitaci\u00f3 internacional i dipositar una patent internacional, s\u2019ha entregat en el mes de maig a l\u2019ESO, a Munich, per a la seva validaci\u00f3, i posteriorment s\u2019instal\u00b7lar\u00e0 a l\\&#8217;ELT a Xile.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p>L\\&#8217;ull m\u00e9s gran constru\u00eft fins ara<span>L\\&#8217;ELT \u00e9s un telescopi revolucionari de llum visible i infraroja que esdevindr\u00e0 l\u2019ull m\u00e9s gran constru\u00eft fins ara per observar el cel, obrint el cam\u00ed cap a una nova generaci\u00f3 de telescopis \u00f2ptics terrestres. Amb el seu disseny \u00fanic de cinc miralls, juntament amb tecnologia d\\&#8217;\u00faltima generaci\u00f3 per corregir les distorsions atmosf\u00e8riques, l\u2019ELT <\/span>proporcionar\u00e0 imatges 15 vegades m\u00e9s n\u00edtides que les del telescopi espacial Hubble<span>. Permetr\u00e0 explorar profundament l\\&#8217;Univers amb un gran detall, la qual cosa comportar\u00e0 un gran aven\u00e7 en el coneixement astrof\u00edsic.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Els telescopis extremadament grans s\u00f3n una de les m\u00e0ximes prioritats en l\\&#8217;astronomia terrestre a tot el m\u00f3n. El projecte de construcci\u00f3 de l\u2019ELT va ser aprovat per l\u2019ESO el 2012, i est\u00e0 destinat a revolucionar l\u2019astronomia moderna. Un dels objectius del telescopi \u00e9s detectar i estudiar planetes semblants a la Terra al voltant d\\&#8217;altres estrelles i <\/span>podria convertir-se en el primer telescopi a trobar proves de vida fora del nostre sistema solar<span>. L\u2019ELT <\/span>tamb\u00e9 investigar\u00e0 els confins m\u00e9s llunyans del cosmos, revelant les propietats de les gal\u00e0xies m\u00e9s primerenques i la naturalesa de l\\&#8217;univers fosc<span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>El telescopi i la seva estructura interior estan protegits de l\u2019entorn extrem del desert d\u2019Atacama a trav\u00e9s d\u2019una <\/span>c\u00fapula gegant de 80 metres d\u2019al\u00e7ada i 88 metres de di\u00e0metre<span>, una dimensi\u00f3 equivalent a la d\u2019un camp de futbol. La part superior de la c\u00fapula girar\u00e0 per permetre que el telescopi apunti en qualsevol direcci\u00f3 a trav\u00e9s de la seva gran ranura d\\&#8217;observaci\u00f3.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Quan estigui totalment equipat amb l\\&#8217;\u00f2ptica i els instruments cient\u00edfics, es calcula que el telescopi arribar\u00e0 a pesar unes 3.700 tones.<\/span><\/p><br><br><p><span>Mentre el treball en la fabricaci\u00f3 i el disseny d\\&#8217;elements de l\\&#8217;ELT a Europa avan\u00e7a de manera constant, <\/span>es preveu que l\\&#8217;ELT faci les primeres observacions cient\u00edfiques el setembre del 2027<span>, aproximadament mig any despr\u00e9s d\\&#8217;una primera \u2018llum t\u00e8cnica\u2019 del telescopi.<\/span><\/p><br><br><h4>Pressupost i finan\u00e7ament<\/h4><br><br><p><span>El projecte \u00e9s fruit del treball i la col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 de diverses empreses i centres de recerca europeus capdavanters, entre els quals l\\&#8217;IDOM i el CD6 de la UPC.
