As a member of the DISCOVER consortium, the UPC Technology Center (CIT UPC) participated in the 2nd General Assembly meeting of the EU-funded DISCOVER project, held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 7 and 8 July 2026. The meeting, hosted by Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), brought together representatives from all 14 partner organisations to review the progress achieved over the past year, discuss ongoing technical developments and coordinate the next steps towards transforming the deconstruction and construction industry through innovative digital technologies.
Coordinated by the Center for Industrial Equipment Design (CDEI-UPC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), the DISCOVER project aims to support more sustainable and circular construction and deconstruction processes through the development and application of innovative digital solutions.
During the two-day meeting, the partners presented the latest progress across the project’s work packages, assessed technical achievements, and discussed the activities planned for the coming months.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the visit to the DISCOVER’s first demonstration site building, located in the centre of Lisbon. The visit provided a real-world environment in which the project’s technologies and solutions will be demonstrated and validated. It also offered valuable insight into the characteristics of the demonstration site, allowing partners to discuss implementation strategies, evaluate technical requirements, and connect ongoing research activities with their practical application.
During the meeting, the consortium also reviewed recent achievements across the project, including progress in robotics development, digital tools, data management and the preparation of demonstration activities.
The partners also exchanged knowledge on current challenges, shared lessons learned, and identified opportunities to strengthen collaboration and maximise the impact of the project’s results. Discussions also adressed upcoming project milestones, dissemination and communication activities, collaboration with other European initiatives, and strategies to ensure that the solutions developed within DISCOVER deliver long-term value.
Following two productive days of technical discussions, collaborative planning, and knowledge exchange, the consortium concluded the meeting with a clear roadmap for the next phase of the project and a renewed commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable, and circular solutions for the European construction industry.
