In May, the new board of the Terrassa Institute of Textile Research and Industrial Cooperation (INTEXTER) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) was formed. The board is comprised of members of the social and industrial environment of the Institute. Since 2008, it has participated in defining the criteria and priorities of the INTEXTER strategy. Antonio Álvarez, Executive Director of CIT UPC, joined as a member of the Executive Committee of the new board, on behalf of CIT UPC.

In the founding event, INTEXTER director, Enric Carrera, talked about the origins of INTEXTER and the main indicators of the current activity of the Institute, in which 60 professionals work at present, including teaching and research staff, administrative and service staff, and research grantholders. UPC rector, Daniel Crespo, who is an ex officio member of the plenary of the new board of INTEXTER at the UPC, thanked the institutions and companies that form part of the board for their involvement in this instrument of participation. The board contributes to promoting the research and technology transfer carried out at INTEXTER for the benefit of the textile and fashion industries, considering the technology challenges involved in the new EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles.
Among the main indicators of the institute, INTEXTER researchers have undertaken 42 research and development projects at the UPC and contracts funded by calls of the EU, state and autonomous governments and companies, which add up to an annual average of around 1.5 million euros. Likewise, regarding services aimed at the industrial sector, INTEXTER carries out every year 200 analyses and reports for 65 textile companies in Spain.

- The digitalisation of human senses has advanced significantly in areas such as vision, hearing and touch. However, smell and taste continue to present a technological challenge, as their analysis relies on the identification of volatile or dissolved chemical compounds. While there are various sensors on the market capable of detecting specific gases and substances, they often lack the versatility required for comprehensive recognition of complex odours, showing limitations in adapting to different combinations of compounds.
