Dr. Carrera takes over from Dr. Martí Crespi who held the post from 2014, and was simultaneously the director of Intexter and the INNOTEX Center. His research is based on textile physics, particularly the objective evaluation of textiles: the hang of fabrics and their hand, touch and comfort. He works with sustainable textiles and assesses sustainability in the textile industry.

In 2002, he won the UPC Award for Quality in University Teaching and the Sustainability Award from the Association of Technical Industrial Engineers of Barcelona.
