Centre d’innovació i Tecnologia BARCELONATECH

The UPC and the company Girbau have extended for three years the Girbau Group Chair in research and innovation in industrial laundry technology, to promote activities of research, innovation, technology transfer, and training.

The renewal of this Chair, which was created in February 2012, consolidates collaboration between Girbau and the UPC in research, development and innovation activities and technology transfer associated with industrial laundry, particularly through the Industrial Equipment Design Centre (CDEI UPC). The Chair is headed by Jordi-Ramon Martínez, who is also director of the CDEI UPC, and is housed in this technological innovation centre specializing in machine engineering.

The Chair promotes technology research projects in technology applied to equipment, particularly those associated with innovation and product development processes in the field of industry laundry. It also promotes the identification of proposals for improvement and innovation in technologies that are applicable to this sector, consultation and collaboration in business innovation projects, and teaching and training activities such as the organization of seminars, the incorporation of UPC students on placements in the company, the supervision of master’s degree projects, and proposals for industrial doctorates.

Girbau is one of the leading international groups in the manufacture of industrial laundry equipment. Its process of internationalization began over two decades ago and it currently has six specialized production centres in Spain, France and China. It has created 15 commercial subsidiaries around the world, with an extensive distribution network and technical services in over 1000 countries.
