CIT UPC JOINS THE ‘PHILANTHROPY MANIFESTO – FOR A BETTER EUROPE’

CIT UPC has joined the ‘Philanthropy Manifesto – For a better Europe’, a call to European politicians to work towards a single market for philanthropy that includes better recognition of these initiatives in the legal acts of the EU, support for cross-border philanthropy across the EU, and a reduction in the current barriers to philanthropy in order to leverage the impact of donors’ and foundations’ spending of private resources for the common good.

The Manifesto has been promoted by the Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe (DAFNE) and is a joint initiative representing the interests of the European sector of foundations led by DAFNE and the European Foundation Centre (EFC).

The Manifesto makes four recommendations:

  • Recognise philanthropy and commit to it
  • Eliminate barriers to cross-border philanthropy
  • Protect and enable philanthropy
  • Funding and joint investment for the common good and civil society.

In Europe, institutional philanthropy includes over 147,000 philanthropic organisations with annual spending of nearly 60 billion euros. Besides the funding and investments, these organisations combine an outstanding set of expertise, deep knowledge and excellent stakeholder networks in the areas of their activities that can be leveraged significantly in the right conditions.

The Manifesto was presented in Brussels on 20 March and organisations signed up on 25 May, the eve of the European elections.
