The Wireless Networks Group (WNG) has worked on a data modulation method. This technology enables communication from a Standard WiFi device to IoT devices that are non-WiFi, through a simple software update. A new WiFi transmitter has been designed to generate radio signals that the receiving IOT devices can “understand”. The technology enables a new use of the functions and signals that are already present in WiFi transmitters.
The project lasted four years (2016–2020) and had a budget of 204,853 euros.
This technology has resulted in a patent.

- A research team from the Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (IRI, CSIC-UPC), together with the Centre de Disseny d'Equips Industrials (CDEI) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), are participating in the national CASANDRA project to develop a digital manufacturing solution that will make it possible to establish a bidirectional data flow for continuous digital integration throughout the supply chain across the product life cycle. The solution, which uses deep learning technology and cloned or default voice models, is specifically designed for the journalism and communications sector.
