The Center for Language and Speech Technologies and Applications (TALP UPC), in collaboration with the company Verbio, has developed a speech recognition device for patients with dysarthria; a group of motor speech disorders of neurological origin that affect respiration, phonation, articulation, resonance or prosody. On the basis of technologies associated with speech processing, an automatic speech recognition device has been developed that, when integrated with software, synthesizes the speech of a person whose voice is distorted, via connectionist models of learning (for example, neural networks). This speech recognition system can also be used to develop a personal assistant for mobile phones that can recognise the speech of people with dysarthria or similar problems.

The project was developed with the support of the INNPACTO programme, in the framework of the Segunda Voz project.
