{"id":10074,"date":"2019-06-21T17:21:51","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T17:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/behive\/"},"modified":"2023-07-17T06:46:22","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T06:46:22","slug":"behive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/behive\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;BeHive&#8217;, winning proposal in EIT Urban Mobility InnovaCity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">21\/6\/2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professionals from mobility sectors, entrepreneurs and public workers proposed solutions to urban mobility challenges as part of the EIT Urban Mobility Challenge, organised by the UPC and Barcelona City Council on 20 and 21 May. &#8216;BeHive&#8217;, a subterranean system for storing goods that imitates beehives and promotes the reuse of packaging, was the winning project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/INNOVACITY.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10066\" width=\"438\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/INNOVACITY.jpg 640w, https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/INNOVACITY-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/INNOVACITY-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/INNOVACITY-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/INNOVACITY-112x75.jpg 112w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width:767px) 438px, 438px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eit.cdtm.de\/urban-mobility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EIT Urban Mobility InnovaCity<\/a>&nbsp;<em>Challenge&nbsp;was&nbsp;<\/em>organised&nbsp;<em>by the&nbsp;<\/em><strong>UPC,<\/strong><em>&nbsp;together with&nbsp;<\/em><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/bithabitat.barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bit Habitat<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.barcelona.cat\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barcelona City Council<\/a><em>,<\/em>&nbsp;and held at the&nbsp;<strong>Ca l\u2019Alier Urban Innovation Centre in Barcelona on 20 and 21 May<\/strong>. Participants had to find technological solutions to challenges in European cities relating to the implementation of sustainable mobility.<br><br>Participants in the initiative included&nbsp;<strong>teams made up of professionals from relevant sectors, entrepreneurs and public workers. Over the&nbsp;<\/strong>two days of the event, they worked to create prototypes of viable solutions and present the results before a panel of experts. The winning proposal was&nbsp;<strong>&#8216;BeHive&#8217;<\/strong>, an underground system for storing goods in the form of a beehive that also promotes the purchase of products with reusable packaging, as a recycling discount is offered. The idea was devised by Eva Espa\u00f1ol, Alejandro Cavazos and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/JasminaCasalsTerre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jasmina Casals<\/a>, lecturer in the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/em.upc.edu\/ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Mechanical Engineering&nbsp;<\/a>at the UPC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team\u2019s prize is a visit to the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomotion.org.il\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EcoMotion<\/a>&nbsp;global event held in&nbsp;<strong>Tel-Aviv on 10\u201313 June<\/strong>, together with the winners of the other two&nbsp;<em>Challenges<\/em>: one held in&nbsp;<strong>Tel-Aviv on 29\u201330 April and one held in Munich on 6\u20137 May<\/strong>.&nbsp;<br><br>Other groups that participated in the Challenge came up with solutions such as the promotion of a system of removable batteries for bicycles, the establishment of restricted times for goods deliveries to the city via lorries, the creation of laboratories to promote mobility as a service or a proposal to pedestrianize the narrow streets of Barcelona\u2019s Gothic quarter, with the installation of bicycle stations at strategic points.<br><br>EIT Urban Mobility InnovaCity is promoted by&nbsp;EIT Urban Mobility, the community within the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eit.europa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)<\/a>&nbsp;that is in charge of developing the European Union\u2019s innovations in urban mobility, led by Barcelona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>21\/6\/2019 Professionals from mobility sectors, entrepreneurs and public workers proposed solutions to urban mobility challenges as part of the EIT Urban Mobility Challenge, organised by the<span class=\"excerpt-hellip\"> [\u2026]<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":10066,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[935],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noticia"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
