The aim is to find solutions to some of the major challenges of the twenty-first century in health, energy and global economy, which could involve synergies between science, technology and economics to address social inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the twelve projects that were selected, seven are focused on health and five on energy, and they are led by thirteen Spanish centres. Each project will receive up to a maximum of $30,000 to promote exchange between participating research groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ABOUT MULTI-MICROGRID. Smart distribution and control of energy systems for isolated communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers Pedro Rodr\u00edguez from the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uloyola.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University Loyola Andaluc\u00eda<\/a>&nbsp;(ULA) and the UPC, Ignacio P\u00e9rez-Arriaga from the MIT and \u00c1lvaro Luna from the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/seer.upc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Science and Engineering Education Research Group<\/a>&nbsp;(SEER UPC) will develop a system called MULTI-MICROGRID, based on the use of microgrids to electrify isolated communities that have no access to electricity. Currently, 3 billion people live in a situation of energy poverty in the world. Of these, 1.1 billion do not have access to electricity. MULTI-MICROGRID proposes smart management and control of microgrids, based for example on technologies for solar energy capture and accumulation, interconnected in more robust collaborative systems that can be connected to the main grid and thus consolidate electrification of the isolated area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>23\/05\/2019 The project \u201cMULTI-MICROGRID.
