Ten further Spanish public entities participate in this committee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya<\/strong> \u00b7 BarcelonaTech (UPC)&nbsp;is one of the ten entities that comprise the first&nbsp;<strong>Spanish Oceanographic Observation Committee (CEOO)<\/strong>, due to the work carried out by the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/obsea.es\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">OBSEA Underwater Observation Laboratory<\/a>, situated on the sea floor of the coast of Vilanova i la Geltr\u00fa. The CEOO will coordinate ocean observation throughout Spain and will act as the representative of all the bodies, contributing to the&nbsp;<strong>management of maritime resources<\/strong>&nbsp;and<strong>&nbsp;supporting scientific research in this field<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OBSEA laboratory is one of the services provided by the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sarti.webs.upc.edu\/web_v2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Remote Acquisition and Data Processing Systems (SARTI)<\/a>&nbsp;research group, whose activity is focused on the&nbsp;<strong>development of instruments for industrial and scientific applications<\/strong>. OBSEA is an underwater cabled observatory around 4 km from the coast of Vilanova i la Geltr\u00fa in a protected fishing area. Thus, information is provided in real-time, without the drawbacks of battery-powered systems. The implemented solution is an optical ethernet network that continuously transmits data from the connected oceanographic instruments.&nbsp;<strong>With OBSEA, many parameters of the marine environment can be observed in real-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ground Station provides power to feed all the devices and the fibre optic link to establish communications. At the same time from land alarms and data storage are managed. With a length of 1000 meters, the terrestrial cable connects the Ground Stationto the Beach Manhole where the submarine cable begins its route to the node location at 4 km from the coast and 20 meters deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First executive committee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other members of the CEOO are the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ieo.es\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO)<\/a>,\u00a0Ports of the State, the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)<\/a>\u00a0and the universities of\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ulpgc.es\/node\" target=\"_blank\">Les Palmes de Gran Can\u00e0ria<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uma.es\/\" target=\"_blank\">M\u00e0laga<\/a>, the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.azti.es\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marine Innovation Technology Centre of the Basque Country (AZTI Tecnalia)<\/a>,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meteogalicia.gal\/web\/index.action?request_locale=es\" target=\"_blank\">MeteoGalicia<\/a>, the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.intecmar.gal\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Technological Institute for the Control of the Marine Environment of Galicia (Intecmar)<\/a>,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/plocan.eu\/index.php\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\">PLOCAN<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.socib.eu\/?language=ca_ES\" target=\"_blank\">Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The body is led by an executive committee comprised of six members and a secretary, who must represent the main ocean observation institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>04\/03\/2019 The new Spanish Oceanographic Observation Committee (CEOO) has been established recently with the participation of the UPC, through the OBSEA underwater observatory, located in Vilanova<span class=\"excerpt-hellip\"> [\u2026]<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":10237,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[935,940,1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10248","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noticia","category-noticia-en","category-sin-categorizar"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
