The solutions on show include data analytics in complex systems for managing drinking water supply networks, the use of bacteria to recover metals from mobile phones and medical data logging for increased precision and better diagnosis. In the last of these areas, applications are on show that enable cardiovascular function to be monitored non-invasively, the instability of injured knees to be controlled, the effects of movement disorders to be recorded by mobile devices and the risk of developing cerebrovascular disease to be assessed.<\/p>\n<p>The projectes are presents in the stand of the CIT UPC, the Technology Center of the UPC (number 4C1, Hall 4, Booth 26, in the Digital Catalonia Pavillion) at the Fira de Barcelona\u2019s Gran Via exhibition centre (Av. Joan Carles I, 64, L\u2019Hospitalet de Llobregat).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Complex data analytics for effective distribution of drinking water<br><\/strong>The Advanced Control Systems research group of the <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cs2ac.upc.edu\/en\" data-val=\"https:\/\/cs2ac.upc.edu\/en\" rel=\"noopener\">Supervision, Safety and Automatic Control Centre (CS<sup>2<\/sup>AC)<\/a>, coordinated by the researcher <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/VicencPuigCayuela\" data-val=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/VicencPuigCayuela\" rel=\"noopener\">Vicen\u00e7 Puig <\/a>and located on the Terrassa Campus, presents a computer tool for analysing sensor data in complex drinking water networks. It is an artificial intelligence system based on algorithms that improves the efficient and sustainable water management of the water supply network.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-highlighted\">\n<li><i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/i2FcUhHqnfA\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" data-val=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/i2FcUhHqnfA\" rel=\"noopener\">Video on the project in YouTube<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bacteria that recover metals from electronic devices<br><\/strong>A team from the <strong>Biological Treatment of Gaseous Pollutants and Odours Group (BIOGAP)<\/strong> and the <strong>Smart Sustainable Resources (SSR-UPC) research centre<\/strong>, coordinated by the researcher <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/AntonioDavidDoradoCastano\" data-val=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/AntonioDavidDoradoCastano\" rel=\"noopener\">Toni Dorado<\/a>, who is a professor at the <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epsem.upc.edu\/en\" data-val=\"https:\/\/www.epsem.upc.edu\/en\" rel=\"noopener\">Manresa School of Engineering (EPSEM)<\/a>, has developed and patented a biotechnological process for recovering metals from electronic devices much more easily than is typically possible with current highly expensive and polluting industrial processes.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-highlighted\">\n<li><i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/tNh1n0isIwA\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" data-val=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/tNh1n0isIwA\" rel=\"noopener\">Video on the project in YouTube<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-invasive cardiovascular monitoring<\/strong><br>The <i class=\"glyphicon link-external\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/isi.upc.edu\/\" data-val=\"http:\/\/isi.upc.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Instrumentation, Sensors and Interfaces (ISI) group<\/a> of the UPC, in research coordinated by the researcher<i class=\"glyphicon link-external\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/isi.upc.edu\/\" data-val=\"http:\/\/isi.upc.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u00d3scar Casas<\/a>, a professor at the <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eetac.upc.edu\/en\" data-val=\"https:\/\/eetac.upc.edu\/en\" rel=\"noopener\">Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering (EETAC)<\/a>, has developed a very low cost electronic system that allows a patient\u2019s cardiovascular function to be monitored in the shortest possible time and without the need for electrodes to be placed on the chest. These features make it easier for untrained people to use them in extra-hospital settings.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-highlighted\">\n<li><i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/IhudI9BE6QQ\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" data-val=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/IhudI9BE6QQ\" rel=\"noopener\">Video on the project in YouTube<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>An app for controlling knee instability in injured people<br><\/strong>An Android mobile app can be used to identify knee instability in people with injuries to this joint. Surgeons need only place adhesive markers at three reference points on the knee and record a video with a mobile phone while they perform laxity tests in order to identify the anteroposterior translation of the patient\u2019s knee. This allows them to quantitatively compare, in a straightforward manner, the instability of both knees, because the information that is processed is displayed in the app in the form of a graph.<\/p>\n<p>The project is coordinated by <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/GilSerrancoliMasferrer\" data-val=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/GilSerrancoliMasferrer\" rel=\"noopener\">Gil Serrancol\u00ed<\/a>, a member of the <strong>Simulation and Movement Analysis Lab (SIMMA Lab)<\/strong> and a Serra H\u00fanter researcher and professor at the <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eebe.upc.edu\/en?set_language=en\" data-val=\"https:\/\/eebe.upc.edu\/en?set_language=en\" rel=\"noopener\">Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-highlighted\">\n<li><i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1l_sxJ5a-rI\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" data-val=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1l_sxJ5a-rI\" rel=\"noopener\">Video on the project in YouTube<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>An app for analysing disorders related to Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/strong><br><i class=\"glyphicon link-external\"><\/i>Antonio Jos\u00e9 S\u00e1nchez Egea, a Serra H\u00fanter researcher in the <i class=\"glyphicon link-external\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.em.upc.edu\/\" data-val=\"http:\/\/www.em.upc.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Multimedia Applications<\/a> and <strong>ICTs Laboratory research group<\/strong> who is also a professor at the <i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eebe.upc.edu\/en?set_language=en\" data-val=\"https:\/\/eebe.upc.edu\/en?set_language=en\" rel=\"noopener\">EEBE<\/a>, is leading a project to develop an electronic health application, which uses the inertial sensors of mobile phones and usable devices to record patients\u2019 kinematic motion disorders, with usable devices and artificial intelligence. The inertial data that are recorded are analysed and classified in real time in a web server, in which patients\u2019 medical history is also stored, to provide, through the application, information that may help to doctors to make decisions.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-highlighted\">\n<li><i class=\"glyphicon link-https\"><\/i><a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cAd4BBqNH6E\" target=\"_blank\" data-linktype=\"external\" data-val=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cAd4BBqNH6E\" rel=\"noopener\">Video on the project in YouTube<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A tool to support the diagnosis of brain malformations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrea Barroso, <\/strong>a UPC graduate in Biomedical Engineering, is developing an accessible, intuitive and easy-to-use web platform for health professionals that can assess the symmetry of brain hemispheres as an indicator of the presence or absence of certain veins.
