The technology will be displayed on a UPC stand in the Catalonia pavilion of the Gran Via venue of the Fira de Barcelona. At the same time, the UPC is participating in 4YFN, the international meeting of the innovation ecosystem at which over thirty technology-based companies promoted by UPC students, alumni or research staff will be present.<\/h4><br>Project Header<br>no-repeat;left top;;<br>auto<br>20px<br><br><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/UPC_mobile_technologies-4.jpg\" alt=\"UPC Mobile Technologies\" \/><br>full<br>center<br><br><br>The technology and innovation that the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya &#8211; BarcelonaTech (UPC) presents at <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mwcbarcelona.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MWC Barcelona 2023<\/a> is the result of the work of research teams in various areas of application. The solutions that are displayed range from an <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/deep-learning-to-predict-the-occupation-of-passengers-in-public-transport-by-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">application to predict the number of passengers travelling on public transport by road<\/a>, a <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/anem-models-and-techniques-of-data-anonymisation-with-applications-in-the-mobility-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">system for the anonymisation of data with applications in the mobility sector<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/mobilitapp-deep-learning-to-predict-the-transport-mode-used-by-citizens-and-protect-their-data-securely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an application to predict the mode of transport used by citizens<\/a>, through deep learning techniques. In addition, a <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/a-charge-estimator-to-optimise-the-performance-of-lithium-ion-batteries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solution to optimise the charge level of electric batteries<\/a> is presented that uses latest generation technologies, and a <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/merit-new-pan-european-educational-ecosystem-for-training-of-digital-specialists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new pan-European learning ecosystem focused on improving the training of digital specialists<\/a> in emerging areas such as AI, IoT and cybersecurity.\u00a0\r<br>These projects will be described, through the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UPC Technology Center (CIT UPC)<\/a>, in the university space of the Catalan Government\u2019s Digital Catalonia pavilion in Congress Square, booth 4, of the Gran Via venue of the Fira de Barcelona (Av. Joan Carles I, 64, l\u2019Hospitalet de Llobregat). Some of these initiatives were presented in the UPC\u2019s second edition of <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/myenquesta.upc.edu\/index.php\/525814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Radar<\/a> call for applications, promoted to identify research groups\u2019 technology projects in the areas of mobile and related technologies.\r<br><h4>Virtual reality for the rehabilitation of neuromuscular injuries<\/h4>\r<br>The <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/lam.upc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Multimedia Applications and ICTs Laboratory (LAM)<\/a> of the UPC presents <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/a-gamified-virtual-reality-application-for-the-rehabilitation-of-patients-with-chronic-disabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Muvity<\/a>, a gamified virtual reality application for the rehabilitation of patients with chronic injuries. The system is designed for patients to do rehabilitation exercises through games designed by the treatment team.\r<br>The functioning of the system is based on capturing movement through a low-cost depth camera. The biomechanical data that are gathered by the system in real time (angles of movement, time played and performance) are stored in a remote database so that the physiotherapist can then analyse and adapt the treatment. In this way, the therapist can remotely plan and personalise the exercises and games and their length and difficulty, so that the patient can complete them at home, as if they were daily mission.\r<br><h4>AI applied to autonomous vehicles to improve fog vision<\/h4>\r<br>The <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cd6.upc.edu\/index.php?nc=1&amp;lang=cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre for Sensors, Instruments and Systems Development (CD6) <\/a>of the UPC and the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ideai.upc.edu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Center (IDEAI)<\/a>, through the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/imatge.upc.edu\/web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Image and Video Processing Group (GPI)<\/a>, have developed a <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/deep-learning-and-multimodal-data-fusion-so-that-autonomous-cars-can-see-through-fog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solution applied to the autonomous car to detect obstacles in foggy conditions<\/a> and so improve the safety of driving.\r<br>As part of the project, a software solution has been developed that is based on deep learning technologies. It enables the integration of real-time image processing from image sensors, radar data and LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging). In this way, aspects of perception and fusion of the image sensors, radar and high-density point clouds are improved. This optimises the perception of vehicles in hostile environments, such as fog or smoke and even sand and smog.\r<br><h4>IoT technology to monitor the state of the sea and improve the safety of beaches<\/h4>\r<br>The <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sarti.webs.upc.edu\/web_v2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technological Development Centre for Remote Acquisition and Data Processing Systems (SARTI)<\/a> of the UPC, along with the company <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.onasafeandclean.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ona Safe &amp; Clean<\/a>, is leading the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/iot-technology-to-monitor-the-state-of-the-sea-and-improve-the-security-of-beaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Douglas<\/a> project. This is a technology based on the internet of things (IoT) to monitor the state of the sea and improve safety in the bathing area of beaches in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.\r<br>The solution is based on a signalling system with marker buoys that delimit the separate areas for\u00a0 bathing and vessels. Through IoT devices inside the buoys, information is sent in real time on the state of the sea and other environmental parameters. Automatically, the system assigns the right flag that allows bathing on the beach or not, regardless of whether it has a lifeguard service. In this solution, IoT technologies are used for the processing, transmission and management of information.\r<br>A series of 50 devices have been designed and produced and a website has been created to monitor and configure an app for the installation of the buoys, which could be set up on any beach in Catalonia.\r<br><h4>Advanced wireless communication services<\/h4>\r<br>The <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/en\/portfolio-item\/loramesher-advanced-iot-services-for-lora-mesh-networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LoRaMesher<\/a> project, in which the <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fib.upc.edu\/en\/research\/research-groups\/cnds-computer-networks-and-distributed-systems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (CNDS)<\/a> research group of the UPC participates, consists of an advanced wireless communication service to interconnect IoT applications (that covers a greater distance and has a much lower energy consumption than WiFi).\r<br>This is the first open code library to implement a data routing protocol that enables the interconnection of IoT applications on LoRa wireless technology. The IoT devices connected through LoRa construct a mesh network, so that they can communicate between each other through nodes of the network, as occurs on the internet.
