The Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) and Endesa have signed the renewal of the Endesa Red Chair in Energy Innovation and Sustainability 2023-2025. Through this Chair (the first of Endesa), since 2005, both institutions have worked together on research and innovation projects to respond to challenges that emerge in the energy sector. In recent years, research has focused on flexibility in the electrical network: the integration into the network of energy from renewable power plants, the increase in energy self-consumption systems in homes and the rollout of charging points for electric vehicles, which are a key element in the energy transition.\r
In the last three years, the Chair has focused on the development of algorithms to identify the points of the network with the greatest congestion, the network capacity to provide a solution, and network optimisation. This will also make the network capable of absorbing moments of congestion due, for example, to an excess of energy from the renewable power stations at a specific time. This year, research in this field will continue with real data extracted from sensor systems in electrical substations.\r
The Endesa Red Chair in Energy Innovation and Sustainability has its offices in the Centre for Technological Innovation in Static Converters and Drives (CITCEA) of the UPC, in the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB).
