{"id":16039,"date":"2022-03-11T10:47:29","date_gmt":"2022-03-11T10:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/?post_type=portfolio&#038;p=16039"},"modified":"2023-07-18T06:37:28","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T06:37:28","slug":"una-tecnologia-disruptiva-para-conservar-la-biodiversidad-de-las-selvas-tropicales","status":"publish","type":"portfolio","link":"https:\/\/cit.upc.edu\/es\/portfolio-item\/una-tecnologia-disruptiva-para-conservar-la-biodiversidad-de-las-selvas-tropicales\/","title":{"rendered":"Una tecnolog\u00eda disruptiva para conservar la biodiversidad de las selvas tropicales"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>09\/03\/2022<br\/>Project Header<br\/>right<br\/>no-repeat;left top;;<br\/>auto<br\/>20px<br\/><br\/><\/p><h4>Un equip d\u2019investigadors de la UPC treballa, juntament amb cient\u00edfics del Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), dels Estats Units; l\u2019Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustent\u00e1vel Mamirau\u00e1 (IDSM), de Brasil, i la Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), als Pa\u00efsos Baixos, en un projecte per desenvolupar una tecnologia que revolucionar\u00e0 la conservaci\u00f3 de la biodiversitat de les selves tropicals. <\/h4><br\/>Project Header<br\/>no-repeat;left top;;<br\/>auto<br\/>20px<br\/><br\/><br\/>Preservar les selves tropicals de la desforestaci\u00f3 \u00e9s vital ja que tenen un paper fonamental en l\u2019estabilitzaci\u00f3 del clima: absorbeixen CO2 i alliberen l\\&#8217;oxigen del qu\u00e8 depenem. Cobreixen menys del 10 % de la superf\u00edcie terrestre, per\u00f2 alberga m\u00e9s del 50 % de la biodiversitat del planeta i 50 milions d\\&#8217;habitants. Tot i aix\u00ed, el valor dels arbres i de les esp\u00e8cies que hi viuen no \u00e9s prou conegut i la capacitat per assolir m\u00e9s coneixement d\u2019aquests ecosistemes \u00e9s limitada, ja que l\\&#8217;entorn de les selves tropicals \u00e9s dens, vast i complex. La r\u00e0pida desaparici\u00f3 dels boscos tropicals est\u00e0 comportant, a m\u00e9s, l\u2019extinci\u00f3 d\u2019un nombre alarmant d\\&#8217;esp\u00e8cies. Malgrat aquesta situaci\u00f3, encara no s\u2019han desenvolupat les eines adequades per controlar l\\&#8217;estat de la vida salvatge i les plantes a la velocitat i escala necess\u00e0ris per mitigar efica\u00e7ment el seu declivi. &#13;<br\/>En aquest sentit, la iniciativa Providence+ proposa prendre el pols de les selves tropicals, mitjan\u00e7ant un conjunt de bioindicadors espec\u00edfics que monitorin esp\u00e8cies en temps real. Aix\u00ed, s\u2019avaluar\u00e0 la din\u00e0mica de les poblacions i els \u00edndexs ecoac\u00fastics de la biodiversitat d\u2019aquests boscos.&#13;<br\/>El projecte t\u00e9 com a precursora la tecnologia desenvolupada, el 2016, pel <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lab.upc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laboratori d\u2019Aplicacions Bioac\u00fastiques (LAB)<\/a> juntament amb el <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mamiraua.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustent\u00e1vel Mamirau\u00e1ua<\/a> (Brasil), en el marc de la iniciativa <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.projectprovidence.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Providence<\/a> per supervisar i entendre la vida salvatge. Es tracta dels nodes Providence, una xarxa de sensors que actualment monitoren i fan el seguiment constant de la biodiversitat sota la coberta dels boscos tropicals. El sistema tamb\u00e9 identifica, mitjan\u00e7ant imatges i sons, una gran quantitat d\u2019esp\u00e8cies, la m\u00e9s gran que fins ara ha perm\u00e8s qualsevol altra tecnologia. Amb la transmissi\u00f3 de dades sense fil i de baix consum d\\&#8217;energia, el sistema d\u2019escolta funciona durant llargs per\u00edodes de temps, sense necessitat de manteniment.&#13;<br\/>L\u2019equip cient\u00edfic de Providence+ millorar\u00e0 la funcionalitat dels actuals nodes i inclour\u00e0 t\u00e8cniques de visi\u00f3 per computador per identificar les esp\u00e8cies vegetals d\u2019aquests boscos. Tamb\u00e9 introduir\u00e0 l\u2019\u00fas de drons i robots no motoritzats per fer el seguiment en temps real de centenars d\u2019esp\u00e8cies, per primer cop sense intervenci\u00f3 humana \u2018in situ\u2019. El nou sistema de sensors incorporar\u00e0 tecnologia d\u2019exploraci\u00f3 d\u2019ADN mediambiental (per explorar l\u2019aire, l\u2019aigua i el s\u00f2l) amb la finalitat de detectar la pres\u00e8ncia hist\u00f2rica d\u2019esp\u00e8cies tant animals com vegetals, a partir de mostres que puguin contenir tan sols p\u00e8ls, plomes o petjades.&#13;<br\/>A m\u00e9s, els investigadors preveuen ampliar la implementaci\u00f3 dels nodes Providence a altres regions de la selva tropical i a altres biomes similars.&#13;<br\/>El desenvolupament de les tecnologies que integren Providence+ requereix d\u2019una inversi\u00f3 de m\u00e9s d\u20191,5 milions d\u2019euros. A m\u00e9s, caldr\u00e0 avaluar-ne, en 48 hores, la biodiversitat amb les dades obtingudes. Aquesta tecnologia s\u2019ha de desenvolupar i presentar abans de la primavera del 2023, en qu\u00e8 es donaran a con\u00e8ixer els deu equips finalistes i, a finals d\u2019abril del 2024, s\u2019anunciaran els equips guanyadors del primer, segon i tercer premis.   &#13;<br\/>Providence + est\u00e0 coordinat per Michel Andr\u00e9, director del <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lab.upc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laboratori d\u2019Aplicacions Bioac\u00fastiques (LAB)<\/a>.
