MagNa: Recovering valuable raw materials from seawater
June 25, 202630/06/2026
The Advanced Network Architectures Lab (CRAAX) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is participating in the ACCOMPLISH project, which is developing an innovative AI-based compliance and certification framework to simplify, integrate and automate compliance in operations, assets, solutions and organisational processes related to data and artificial intelligence.
ACCOMPLISH is a project co-funded by the Horizon Europe programme that aims to help organisations address growing regulatory requirements by simplifying, integrating and automating compliance in their operations, assets, solutions and organisational processes related to data and artificial intelligence (AI).
To this end, the project is developing an innovative AI-based compliance and certification framework covering legal and regulatory, environmental, cybersecurity and sector-specific requirements. Based on open, extensible and well-defined compliance policy models, this framework modernises and automates assessment and certification processes, while ensuring transparency, explainability and accountability through a human-in-the-loop (HITL) approach capable of proactively identifying potential risks and non-compliance.
Among the main expected results of ACCOMPLISH are the development of compliance policy models, an assessment and certification methodology, and automated assessment and certification services to support continuous compliance management. The project will deliver tangible results including, first, the Compliance Digital Passport; second, the ACCOMPLISH Toolkit, which provides digital enablers for compliant data and AI operations; and, finally, the ACCOMPLISH Integrated Platform for compliance assessment, recommendations and certification.
These innovations will be validated through pilots in four sectoral hubs: energy, automotive, robotics and manufacturing, and aviation, demonstrating their effectiveness in real-world environments.
Within the project, CRAAX (experts in communication networks, cybersecurity, distributed systems —cloud continuum— and digital infrastructures) contributes, among other activities, to the development of compliance certification services and regulatory policy modelling, thereby enabling automated compliance assessment and certification. It also leads the development of several essential services within the ACCOMPLISH Toolkit. These include the Model Training Service, which supports AI and machine learning model training processes and assesses their compliance; the Model Deployment Planning Service, which recommends optimal strategies for model deployment; and the Energy Footprint Assessment Service, which monitors resource use and energy consumption during the execution of AI models in order to assess their environmental impact.
Consortium and Budget
ACCOMPLISH has a consortium of 25 partners bringing complementary expertise in artificial intelligence, data management, cybersecurity, compliance and sector-specific applications.
The total project budget is €9,830,812.50 and its duration is 42 months (January 2025-June 2028).

This project received funding from EU Horizon Innovation Action AI-driven data operations and compliance technologies HORIZON-CL4-2024-DATA-01-01. Grant agreement: 101189763
