WHAT IS A DATA SPACE?
A data space is a shared, secure and transparent digital infrastructure that enables companies, institutions and public administrations to access and combine their own data with that of their sector (suppliers, clients, regulators, competitors, etc.) to foster collaboration and innovation, generating new business and competitiveness opportunities.
Each organisation decides what to share, with whom, and under what conditions, always maintaining control and sovereignty over its information, with guarantees of security, transparency, traceability, regulatory compliance and prevention of misuse.

Projectes Relacionats
- A research team involving the Barcelona Innovative Transportation (BIT), inLab FIB, CARNET Barcelona – Future Mobility Research Hub (CER-AMA), and the Department of Computer Architecture (DAC) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is driving the i-MovE project, which aims to incorporate multisectoral data to provide much more accurate and valuable information for the mobility sector. The project develops four use cases focused on both companies and mobility authorities, covering public and individual transport, using the UPCxels demonstrator.
- The UPCxels project, led by the Intelligent Data sciEnce and Artificial Intelligence Research Group (IDEAI-UPC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), aims to create an open, cross-sectoral platform for a shared data space across multiple fields, with a special focus on the agri-food sector.
- A multidisciplinary research team led by the Intelligent Data sciEnce and Artificial Intelligence Research Group (IDEAI-UPC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is participating in the Agrixels project, which aims to create an agricultural information standard—essentially, a data ecosystem—designed for AI-based services in the agri-food sector.
