The UPC coordinates XaFIR, the network that promotes industry 4.0 in SMEs
January 21, 2021inLab FIB is working on the i3-Market project, whose aim is to develop technologies and solutions for reliable, interoperable, decentralised infrastructure for data-based collaboration and the federation of existing and future market platforms.
The i3-MARKET project is focused on meeting the required levels of privacy and confidentiality (limitations of opening and equity, threats to security and privacy, problems of interoperability) in marketplace platforms that provide support on legal aspects, control and transparency for sharing data between relevant systems and services. This will enable the integration of multiple marketplaces for safe data exchange and the maintenance of privacy through data spaces and markets.

inLab FIB will be in charge of designing and developing a central interface (API) that integrates all the services developed by other work groups. This ensures interoperability and provides a single entry point to use all these services. In addition, inLab FIB also participates in the deployment and operation of this interface.
The i3-MARKET project will last three years (January 2020 – December 2022) and has received funding of over 5 million euros from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme. The project is coordinated by the National University of Ireland Galway. In addition to inLab FIB, twelve other partners are involved, from Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, Estonia, Romania, Italy and Portugal.

- The Food Safety and Control Research Center (CRESCA) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), in collaboration with the Aquamaris Foundation, has developed a system that allows irrigation using seawater without the need for filtration, desalination, or chemical treatment, both in agriculture and gardening. The new system enables the adaptation of ornamental garden plants and leafy vegetable crops, eliminating the need for fresh water entirely.
- The AI4WATER project proposes optimizing the use of available water resources, to mitigate the effects of increasing water scarcity in agriculture and to improve food safety through the creation of a digital twin (DT) in an irrigation sector of the Segarra-Garrigues region (Lleida). Participants in the project are the Specific Research Centre in Communication and Detection of the UPC (CommSensLab-UPC), the Center for Industrial Equipment Design (CDEI) and the Geophysics and Earthquake Engineering (GiES) group of the UPC.
- SOPHOS, a project with the participation of the research group Construction Materials and Roads (MATCAR) and the Environmental Engineering and Microbiology Group (GEMMA) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), is born. In the framework of SOPHOS, a low-cost technology will be developed and validated to improve the efficiency of the use of agronomic resources, in particular water and phosphorus. This will be designed according to a circular economy model, which will reduce the impact.
- Agricultural robotics is currently an emerging sector. Although initiatives to automate farming tasks are beginning to emerge, most of them are in the United States and […]
