The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), through the UPC Technology Center (CIT UPC), will have an exhibition space at the stand of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in the Catalonia pavilion, at MWC Barcelona 2026, which this year will take place from 2 to 5 March at Fira Barcelona (Gran Via).
Hall Congress Square (CS210–CS220), booth 21.
As in previous editions, the UPC will showcase its technological capabilities, along with a selection of projects and solutions in areas such as smart connectivity, intelligent infrastructures for the new digital economy, the application of artificial intelligence to transform processes, connected mobility, 5G/6G, and security in mobile connectivity.
MWC Barcelona, the world’s leading global event for the connectivity and mobile technologies sectors, will bring together the latest market innovations and the most influential experts in the field.
MWC Barcelona 2026 will revolve around the theme “The IQ Era” (the age of intelligence), a concept structured around six major thought pillars that will shape the congress sessions:
- AI 4 Enterprise: the application of artificial intelligence to transform business processes, improve productivity and drive new business models.
- AI Nexus: the convergence of AI, data and emerging technologies to accelerate cross-cutting innovation.
- ConnectAI: the combination of advanced connectivity and artificial intelligence to enable smarter, more efficient and scalable services.
- Game Changers: disruptive technologies that are redefining the future, from AI to new digital paradigms with global impact.
- Intelligent Infrastructure: smart infrastructures underpinning the new digital economy, with networks that are more resilient, sustainable and ready for the AI era.
- Tech4All: purpose-driven technology focused on inclusion, accessibility and positive social impact.
In addition, 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of MWC in Barcelona, commemorating two decades of collaboration between a world-leading event and Barcelona, further consolidating the city as a global innovation hub.

- The inLab FIB at the UPC has collaborated with Lizcore® for the development of a proof of concept based on artificial intelligence to improve safety in climbing with autobelay devices. The system allows the automatic and accurate detection of risk situations before starting a route.
- Researchers from the Centre for Image and Multimedia Technology of the UPC (CITM) and from the DiCode research group (Digital Culture and Creative Technologies Research Group) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) have worked on the project The Eyes of History, an initiative of the Catalan Agency for Cultural Heritage that offers an immersive view of Catalan cultural heritage. It is especially aimed at the first and second cycles of secondary education and was created to bring heritage into the classroom. Its goal is to bring the history and monuments of Catalonia closer in a vivid and innovative way, using tools such as virtual reality and new museographic narratives.
