Maria Dolors Riera i Colom received on 15 June the first edition of the Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta Award – Manresa Campus Award for her professional career linked to the territory and for inspiring industrial careers among women.

In December 2020, Manresa City Council approved the creation of the Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta Award – Manresa Campus Award to recognise the role of women who contribute actively in the territory to the research, teaching and dissemination of science, in memory of Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta, who was director of the EPSEM. The prize is an initiative promoted by the councillor of Feminism and LGBTI and the councillor of universities of Manresa City Council.

Initially, the award was to be given on around 11 February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, but it was delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic until 15 June. The ceremony took place at 7 p.m. in the Library of the Manresa University Campus, behind closed doors, and was live streamed through the YouTube channel of Manresa City Council.

Maria Dolors Riera i Colom is a mining engineer, an industrial engineer specialised in metallurgy, and a PhD holder in industrial engineering. She is professor of the Manresa School of Engineering (EPSEM) and is attached to the Department of Mining, Industrial and ICT Engineering. She is a member of the Sustainable Mining Research Group (GREMS) and the Smart Sustainable Resources (SSR-UPC) group of the UPC.

This award pays homage to the figure of Rosa Argelaguet (Sallent, 1958 – Manresa, 2020), who was director of EPSEM for six years. With a PhD in industrial engineering from the UPC and expertise in systems engineering and automation, she was head of studies of EPSEM and director of the Department of Electronic System Design and Programming (DiPSE) from 2010 until her incorporation in the Department of Mining, Industrial and ICT Engineering (EMIT). In addition, she was vice-rector for Teaching and Students (1998–2001) at the UPC during the mandate of rector Jaume Pagès and was one of the main promoters of the  bachelor’s degree in ICT Systems Engineering. Throughout her career, she received many awards, including the Seventeenth Award for Quality of University Teaching, given by the Board of Trustees of the UPC.
