- As part of the DigiPatICS project, eight ICS hospitals have optimised breast cancer diagnosis thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms that automate the analysis of tissue samples, enabling earlier and more accurate detection of the disease. The results and diagnoses are shared in real time across the eight centres, thereby forming the largest pathology network in Europe.
- The BIOsignal Analysis for Rehabilitation and Therapy (BIOART) research group at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) coordinates the Proactive Response and Efficient Planning with AI for Resilient Emergencies in hospitals (PREPARE) project, which aims to optimise hospital preparedness during emergencies through dynamic capacity and risk assessment using artificial intelligence (AI).
- A team from the Environment Centre Laboratory (LCMA) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is taking part in a study commissioned by the city councils of la Llagosta, Mollet and Santa Perpètua (in Vallès Occidental), with the main objective of identifying the impact of industrial plants on the generation of unpleasant odours and continuously monitoring air quality in these municipalities.
- A team from the Bioinspired Oral Biomaterials and Interfaces (BOBI) research group at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (CEM) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is taking part in the European project HYDROHEAL, which explores how to transform bone fracture treatment using smart and advanced biomaterials, aiming to reduce the risk of infection and implant rejection, as well as shortening fracture recovery times.
- A team led by the Electronic and Biomedical Instrumentation (IEB) research group at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is developing an electronic chip that enables more objective detection of potential infractions in race walking, which are currently judged solely by visual observation. The technology, already tested in official competitions, provides accurate, objective, and fair data on race walkers’ loss of ground contact.
