SATE-VEG: A system for energy renovation of buildings that helps reduce the urban heat island effect
Researchers from the Architecture, Energy and Environment (AiEM) group at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) have developed SATE-VEG, an external thermal insulation system with a vegetal coating that offers seasonally adaptive thermal behaviour, enhances urban biodiversity and promotes positive health effects. The system is made from organic materials, requires low maintenance and consumes minimal water.- A research team from the Interdisciplinary Group on Building Science and Technology (GICITED) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) is leading the BioSAFE project, which aims to develop sustainable building envelopes —mainly façades— designed according to sustainability, comfort and safety criteria, with particular attention to their acoustic behaviour and fire performance.
- The Centre for Technological Risk Studies (CERTEC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) is coordinating the European Program for Wildfire-Prepared Communities (FIREPRIME), a project designed to develop tools and services for wildfire prevention in Europe, with the goal of improving safety in the wildland-urban interface by actively involving the community in its own protection.
- The project, led by the Centre for Advanced Technologies in Mechanics (CATMech) research group at UPC, aims to minimise the by-product waste in hemp cultivation through the development of a competitive industrial plant, reduce energy consumption, and increase comfort in buildings through research into innovative insulation panels in bioconstruction.
- The Paper Engineering research group (CELBIOTECH) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is participating in a project to develop biodegradable materials from cellulose, to transform them into advanced, eco-friendly bioproducts.
