- The inLab FIB of the UPC is participating with the company Kapture Intelligence in a project to improve quality control systems in manufacture processes, based on a model of an artificial intelligence algorithm that detects when a part or product has suffered from a drop in quality level.
- A multidisciplinary team at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is working on the European project AI - Enhanced Fibre -Wireless Optical 6G Network in Support for Connected Mobility (6G-EWOC) to develop technologies and a 6G optical network that will combine artificial intelligence with 6G technologies, remote sensing systems and optical communication (wireless and by optical fibre). The result will be a network that will enable autonomous and human-driven vehicles to circulate safely, avoiding accidents in zones that have a lot of traffic or are very busy.
- A multidisciplinary team whose participants include the Microbiology Service of the Vall d’Hebrón University Hospital, the Microbiology research group of the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), the Computational Biology and Complex Systems Group (BIOCOM-SC UPC), the Image and Video Processing Group (GPI) and the Database Technologies and Information Management Group (DTMI) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), and Fundación Probitas, have presented a new diagnostic method for malaria based on artificial intelligence.
- An international consortium of universities, hospitals and companies, led by the Centre for Sensors, Instruments and Systems Development (CD6) at the UPC, is developing new technologies based on light and artificial intelligence to improve the diagnosis of various diseases.
- Currently, buildings are becoming smart organisms due to a wide range of distributed sensors and software programmes that provide them with a certain degree of intelligence. In this context, SUST(AI)N emerged. Participants in this project include researchers from the Instrumentation, Sensors and Interfaces Group (ISI) and the Components and Systems for Communications Research Group (CSC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC).
- Researchers from the Advanced Broadband Communications Centre (CCABA) and the Optical Communications Group (GCO) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) participate in the B5G-OPEN (Beyond 5G – OPtical nEtwork coNtinuum) project. This project is funded by the European Union, in the framework of which a new end-to-end integrated packet-optical transport architecture based on multiband optical transmission and switching networks is being designed and prototyped.
- The AI4WATER project proposes optimizing the use of available water resources, to mitigate the effects of increasing water scarcity in agriculture and to improve food safety through the creation of a digital twin (DT) in an irrigation sector of the Segarra-Garrigues region (Lleida). Participants in the project are the Specific Research Centre in Communication and Detection of the UPC (CommSensLab-UPC), the Center for Industrial Equipment Design (CDEI) and the Geophysics and Earthquake Engineering (GiES) group of the UPC.
- The digital transformation is the basis for constructing the new digital society. In it, one of the main challenges is to put people at the centre and evolve towards a social and digital construction in the areas of benefits, human rights, ethics and sustainability based on fundamental pillars.
