- The Centre for Technological Risk Studies (CERTEC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) is coordinating the European Program for Wildfire-Prepared Communities (FIREPRIME), a project designed to develop tools and services for wildfire prevention in Europe, with the goal of improving safety in the wildland-urban interface by actively involving the community in its own protection.
- The Research Center for Supervision, Safety and Automatic Control (CS2AC-UPC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) has coordinated the SaCoAV project, focused on researching new methods and tools to ensure the safe coordination of autonomous vehicles in urban environments.
- The Centre for Technological Risk Studies (CERTEC) at UPC is participating in the WUITIPS project (Wildland-Urban-Interface Fire Touristic Infrastructure Protection Solutions), which aims to develop a new wildfire management framework for the tourism sector. This project contributes to risk analysis and the design of specific strategies to mitigate such risks.
- The adoption of 6G applications will have a positive impact on a broad range of innovations set to transform our society in the future. These include autonomous vehicles that reduce accidents, more efficient emergency services, and connected drones that expedite the delivery of medical supplies between healthcare centres, to name a few examples. These and other emerging solutions continue to evolve, driven by the constant technological advancements in communications. The implementation of these new technologies requires a process that inevitably involves testing in environments as true to real-life conditions as possible.
- The European project LIFE Biogasnet, coordinated by the Biological Treatment of Gaseous Contaminants and Odours Group (BIOGAP) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), has validated a new biogas purification technology that improves the quality of this resource, produced in urban solid waste treatment plants and wastewater treatment facilities, while reducing the carbon footprint, thus promoting the concept of a circular economy. The new solution is based on efficient, low-cost biological technologies, combining a biotrickling filter with a nitrification bioreactor.
- As part of the USEFUL project, the Centre for Sensor, Instrumentation and Systems Development (CD6) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) has equipped a low-emission vehicle that will drive through the streets of Terrassa with optical sensors integrated into a complex system for data computing, visualisation, and storage. This car will collect and store thousands of anonymous driving data points, which will be used to develop more accurate algorithms for autonomous driving.
- The Remote Sensing Acquisition Systems Development Centre (SARTI UPC) has developed a new model of buoys to record ocean currents and temperatures as part of the European project Multi-Sensor Extra Light Oceanography Apparatus (MELOA). This is a DRIFTER, or a low-cost, low-power surface drifting buoy, which is easy to use, impact-resistant, multi-purpose, multi-sensorial, and very lightweight. It is designed to be used in all aquatic environments, from the deep sea to inland waters, including coastal areas, river plumes, and wave-breaking zones.
- A group of researchers from the Nautical Faculty of Barcelona (FNB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) is developing a system based on machine learning technologies to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the fuel consumption of ships from the NGO Open Arms. This project, called FNB-Open Arms, is the first case of technology transfer from the Fractus-UPC Deep Tech Hub, a collaboration initiative between the company Fractus and the UPC, that aims to promote innovation in deep technologies.

- The Heat and Mass Transfer Technology Center (CTTC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) participated in the Economic COgeneration by Efficiently COncentrated SUNlight (ECOSUN) project to develop a low-cost, concentrated thermal and photovoltaic cogeneration system that increases the system’s electrical efficiency.
- The Technological Development Center for Remote Acquisition and Data Processing Systems (SARTI) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) participated in GIRASOL II, a project to develop a digital twin for photovoltaic plants by applying internet of things (IoT) technology, artificial intelligence techniques and immersive human-machine interfaces.
- The Centre for Sensors, Instruments and Systems Development (CD6) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is participating in the development of a smart assistant device that, by combining building information modelling (BIM) with augmented reality and virtual reality technologies, provides a comprehensive tool at each stage of the construction life cycle.
